Lidl Hungary has made a significant advancement with the inauguration of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This new facility is the largest warehouse constructed by the retailer in Hungary, designed to supply around 70 stores across the region. Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the center stands as a major addition to Lidl’s infrastructure in the country.
The establishment of this logistics hub has created over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees in the near future. Equipped with 194 loading docks and a specialized 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, the center incorporates several energy-efficient technologies. A notable feature is its 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation, along with a system that utilizes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating, highlighting Lidl’s commitment to sustainable operations.
Enhancing the ecological footprint of the site, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been developed around the logistics center. This initiative underscores Lidl’s dedication to incorporating environmentally friendly practices in its business operations. The new facility is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Lidl’s supply network nationwide, as it will dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily.
Lidl’s current operations in Hungary include 220 stores, with nearly 60% of the products sourced from Hungarian suppliers. The opening of this logistics center is poised to bolster the retailer’s ongoing expansion efforts and reinforce its domestic market presence. With such developments, Lidl continues to enhance its logistical capabilities and underscores its commitment to growth and sustainability in Hungary.
